A Reel Good Time
Do your feet get to tapping at the sounds of Celtic jigs and reels? Then check out the Celtic & Old Time Jam session on Sunday October 28 (and the fourth Sunday of every month) in the Magnolia Saloon of Coulterville’s historic Hotel Jeffery. Professional and amateur musicians from across the state converge on this colorful and spacious old room, toting their fiddles, mandolins, banjos, accordions, hammered dulcimers and other instruments, to enjoy a musical afternoon which everyone is invited to share as a player, listener or dancer. This is a great opportunity for folks who love to play but don’t always get to reach a live audience. The program is flexible but generally starts with a slow jam from 2PM until 3:30PM, followed by a more advanced, fast jam continuing until 5PM (or whenever the energy gives out).
In case you don’t know, Coulterville is an historic mining town whose main street preserves most of its Gold Rush era buildings. Yosemite Valley is an hour’s drive to the East, Sonora and Jamestown are less than an hour to the North. The Hotel Jeffery’s twenty-one rooms provide a convenient base from which to enjoy the surrounding area. If you let them know when calling to make a reservation that you’re coming to the Jam session, they’ll give you a good discount and throw in a drink on the house.
